“Did you realize you’ve said something multiple times this morning while we’ve been having coffee?” she asked me as she touched my arm. “You’ve told me several stories where you’ve said, ‘What if ____, God?’ and He answered you with, “Even if…’”
I blinked. She was right. I had told her many examples that morning of questions I asked God where my “what-ifs” overflowed from my heart and tumbled out of my mouth, and God reassured me of His “even-ifs.” Even if all those scenarios happen, He is still with me…He is still good…He is still in control…He is still wise…He still loves me…He will still keep all His promises. I know this to be true for me and for anyone who trusts Jesus with their life.
He, the I AM (the one who says, all that I AM I will be to you, and all that you need, I AM) is who I cling to no matter what craziness I (we) encounter in this world. He is who I ask, fervently and trepidatiously, “Ok then, what is next, Lord? What would you have me do?” As I wait for Him to show me what I must do, I remember Psalm 27:13-14 (I memorized it the NIV way, but the amplified version speaks here),
“I would have despaired
had I not believed that I would see
the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
Wait for and confidently expect the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for and confidently expect the Lord.”
